New thoughts on a bridge camera, may be the way to go

Good light cam = Bridge cam

Bridge cams are good in IQ details only in good to very good light. If you're those concerned about getting details (like in feathers), then my thinking is "don't"- stick with your dslr. Not only will the IQ be better, you can up the ISO in poorer lighting to even ISO6400 and get that bird shot. (Of course at higher ISO your IQ suffers, but it's still much better IQ than compared with a bridge at higher ISO).

I have an FZ150 but I grabbed my T3i for the recent aviary shots of small birds, because of poor lighting indoors. Most were taken at ISO6400 (see this week's Show Your Snaps or my humble gallery).

The reach may be there...but the key is still getting close (or as close as humanly possible). For a bridge cam, the lighting is even more critical, and don't forget AF, it's slower and may not track as well. Plus look out for if the bridge has manual zoom. Motorized zoom is quite a pain for fast framing - all these matters if you're into birding or mobile targets.

Just my one dolllar and thirty two cents.

PS. I do agree with the previous poster, I use my FZ150 to complement my T3i - I think the combo does work in most situations, as I'll usually have both on my trips.
