ImagePrint 9

First off, the people at ColorByte were very helpful in working with me. Also, they did not blink an eye when I said I wanted my money back as
ImagePrint 9 was not meeting my expectations.

Although ImagePrint 9 has many very fine features that would be good for a high volume print shop, I'm just a single user on a quest to produce the highest quality prints possible. Based on various reviews that I had read about improved image quality using ImagePrint 9, I was willing to put down my +$900 and take the software for a ride. I was interested in improved image quality. I really wanted this to work for me.

After two days of intensive tests on various papers using various ImagePrint 9 settings and speaking with ColorByte to ensure I was using the software correctly, I was not able to discern a significant difference in image quality between that produced by ImagePrint 9 and the Epson driver.

Has any else had a similar experience?

My experience may be different that others who have had positive results. It could be that the quality of my printer and my knowledge of printing was at the point that there would not have been a significant difference between what i have been getting without ImagePrint 9 and what ImagePrint 9 could produce.

I have an Epson Stylus 3880. I work in 16 bit, in a ProPhoto and Adobe RGB color space. I capture in Raw and PP in Photoshop. I'm an advanced PS user. I been printing in my home studio for the +3 years. I continually spend a great deal of my time and $ learning my craft. I love prints.

Over the last two days I have worked thru various images (portraits and landscapes) using a number of different papers (Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Stain, Red River Polar Pearl Metallic, Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl, Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk). For each paper I have downloaded the profile from Profile Valet. I have experimented with light settings: Daylight, F2 and F3. I have experimented with Shadow settings: 0, 25, 50, 75, 100. I have experimented with Rendering Intends: Perceptual and Relative. I have also spoken with an ColorByte specialist . Based on this period of testing and experimenting, I have found no significant difference in image quality between the image produced by Imageprint 9 and the Epson 3880 driver.
