My brief hands on with the G1X before I couldn't resist it (pics).

I had a day off, so went to my local camera store to see if I could try the g1x. I asked them if I could bring my own memory card to try it, since the camera seemed to be acting weird without a memory card, with limited access to control (maybe I'm not used to the controls yet?) After dinner I took some gears and my MacBook with LR4 to try it. I liked it but too bad they already sold the 6 they had. In fact I liked it so much, I ordered 1 for myself, and 1 as gift.

I wanted to replace my g10 which is my vacation camera. The limit of the g10 is obviously it's low ISO (or lack of with 1600). I want to share some of my test pics that got me sold.

Sorry for the lack of proper training to test a camera and the chessy pics, but I was trying to get the worst pictures, as oppose to all the existing beautiful pics that others already uploaded.

Trying macro without adapter on the wide end, and that was the closet I could get to the scanner. I did get the adapter ordered as a result, as this doesn't work too good for food pictures imo.

A few comparison, and how my g10 was put in shame (the Walmart logo). Used 50L on 5D. Obviously I would not use this setting in real life on vacation, but just trying to shoot at as fast of a shutter speed as I could, in the case of aconcert.

The limit of the camera is obviously its high aperature on the tele side. What I would have loved to get, but what I'm only going to get in reality. Used 70-200L ii on 5D.

I did not find a reason to upgrade to g11 or g12, or maybe I didn't travel last time with a p&s but bought my DSLR with me, which I regretted deeply. I find that I wasn't in a mood to take pictures with the DSLR that got heavier as the day went on.

I have joined the crowd in now waiting with anxiety for the g1x to arrive, which is unfortunately 2-3 weeks =). You have to try one for yourself if you're / was still debating like me. I did not find the g1x slow at all, it's auto focus was fast, and you can set the shutter speed to make it fast without much compromise in quality in my humble opinion.
