Canon 1D MKIIn images way too light on LCD

Canon 1D MKIIn owners and users: Does your LCD seem too bright - or, to be more accurate, seem to render your images to look way too (2 to 3 stops) overexposed?

Mine does, bigtime.

I recently bought my 1D MKIIn and it's in very good condition, with low actuations. But the LCD is so unreliable, it might as well not even be there. I have to check the histogram on every shot (which, I know, is recommended).

My old 40D used to be a bit like this, bit this is ridiculous.

I have played with brightness control. It is on medium. When I turn the brightness down, the images still seem blown out, but just darker.

Is this an issue with this model, or could something just be wrong with this camera's LCD or settings?

Thanks.
