I have both. The D90's controls blow the D5100's away - like night and day. If you are used to the D90, you will find a lot of things missing in the D5100 - accessing the many features that took a button press or two in the D90 will require digging through the D5100's menus. Plus the stupid "moving center focus point" design- Ugggh!!! Makes me wish for the lock switch on the D90 every time I pick up the D5100.

I agree with Barry, if you like the controls on the D90, you may be disappointed in the D5100.

On the plus side, what you do gain above and beyond the D90 may make the switch worthwhile to you. I do like the swiveling/articulating screen. Plus the shutter has a nice, subdued sound. The sensor has good noise characteristics (but then so did the D90's). Autofocusing in Hi Def video is also nice (although pretty slow).
