Depends on how big your "indoors" is.Ah now that does make me stop and think the price may be worth it.... so what are your thoughts about using this lens for indoor portrait style shots? or is it a bit short for that use?

And my point? If a "50/1.8 standard lens for Canon/Nikon/Sony dslr's" meets your needs, more power to you. The point Uwe was making, (as am I)? The image/resolving properties of this lens, are not the same as a "standard" $100-$150 lens. They are on the same level as the lenses I compared them too, (which cost SIGNIFICANTLY more.)My point about price was simply that a 50/1.8 standard lens for Canon/Nikon/Sony dslr's can readily be bought for $100-150 range from just about any reputable supplier... now the image stabilisation, well I guess that's a bonus/overhead we will have to pay for every lens in which it is included.
I had the 50G and replaced it with a late 80's 50AFD, for my D700. I found the 50G ... not as sharp, (perhaps subjective). For the N7, (which I have) and tested the S50 and the N50AFD, the S50 is sharper.right now I use my Nikon 50mm f/1.4G lens for portraits. I will most likely replace it with this lens after I get my NEX-7

I always think these data are optimistic. 1-2 f-stops is a lot already for me.If you get 4 stops of extra hand hold
