Sales of PCs in the U.S. fell steeply in the fourth quarter last year

But I read somewhere that the next 2 or 3 years should be good for PC sales.

Tablets are things people don't own, but want to buy. PCs, people own one already.

In another 5 years, all the people that want to tablets, they'll own one too.

I own an iPad. I bought it last June, and I've found that I use it a real lot.

But for serious stuff, like typing up all this, or editing photos, the PC keyboard and mouse are much, much better.

The iPad I use for reading, of one type or another.

My point being, people will still need PCs, it's just that they own one already.

I look at IBM. I don't know how they're doing this year, but the last 15 years have been very profitable for them. 25 years ago, mainframe computers were a huge part of their revenue, and these days, they'll still make a lot from mainframe computers.

They've found new sources of revenue, essentially "IT consulting", but without treating badly their old mainframe computer customers.
