Monument Valley - Landscape lens advice with D300s

Going to Monument Valley for the first time next week
(and will also visit Grand Canyon for the third time!).

I need advice to get best landscape results with my current gear:
Sigma 10-20 (f/4-5.6)
Nikon 17-55 (f/2.8)
(also can take 70-200 VRI, 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8, 105 macro [non-VR]).
(Gear will be on a Gitzo 1325 with a RRS BH-55 ball head.)

Last time at Grand Canyon I didn't take the Sigma:
I've never been wowed by results from that lens (my sample may be subpar??).

With this gear what is your recommendation for best results for Monument Valley landscapes? (Ditto for Grand Canyon.)

The 17-55 is great, but is just not quite wide enough at times.

Should I shoot the heck out of the Sigma to see what it can do and try to get some better results from it? If so, any tips?

Also, I've done very little stitching of shots to build panoramas:
what lens above would be best if I am doing that?

Don't know if I should leave the polarizer on the Sigma:
I've tried it and don't recall a vignetting problem,
but any input appreciated!!

Any other tips greatly appreciated!
