What is your approach to street photography with people?

This is a general question, but it relates to X100 in that (1) we have to live with a fixed medium-wide lens and (2) i prefer opinion from Fujifolks

I really only shoot during travel, and I shoot mostly landscape. Now Im trying to incorporate more 'street shooting', i.e. people in the context of place.

Without the discretion of zoom and/or a tiny P&S body, how do you approach shooting people without being intrusive?

(People like to say the X100 with leaf shutter is less intimidating than SLR, but it's still a big camera that attract lots of attention.)

Besides portrait situations where obviously you would need to ask permission,
I feel very conscious when trying to "sneak" photos of people.

How do you do it?

Fujifilm FinePix X100
