I've been using the G series since the G3, right up to G12, filterless, and NEVER scratched a lens.

So because you've never suffered, the problem therefore does not exist?

Scratched lenses exist. But, as I said, I don't believe in adding more cheap glass in front of a decent lens, and it takes quite some doing. Or quite some bending of the shutter.

Nothing to do with adding a filter, but there is undeniable proof that the "protection" shutters CAN damage the front surface of the lens. By having a conventional lens cap the G1X is not going to suffer damage from the so-called "protector" covers.
