A G1X tip. Use your neck strap

My tip for the day

There is a thread going on in here where some people are saying that they are going to dump there neck straps for wrist straps with their new G1X's. I just can't let that one go

By far the best way to stabilize your camera, besides a tripod, is to use the viewfinder. With the camera pressed against your face your entire body acts as an anchor to stabilize the camera. With the G series having a less than perfect OVF, you get things stabilized, but you can't see what you are aiming at You got to adjust.

Your neck strap is a great tool for this. Combined with Canon's excellent IS systems, which on the G series cameras truly is excellent, use your strap as a inovative monopod. Shorten the strap around your neck a little bit and pull it taunt when you compose on the LCD in front of you. It really cuts the camera movement. Auto focus and let the IS kick in for a few moments. Plus your camera is always out there in front of you where it should be. And safe.

I'm sure everybody knew all of this already, so this thread was probably a waste, but I just had to try to reach out to you wrist strap people. I have a few hand held neck strap shots that I took with my G10 and G9 and S90 though. Look foreword to my new G1X if B&H ever gets it in stock

Anyway thanks for reading. If I convert one wrist strap person I'll be happy.

Brian
