If you want a filter for lens protection then a quality UV filter is likely the best choice. It will protect your lens while not adversely affecting IQ. If you were using it to improve IQ then I'd skip it.

At low light indoors though you aren't going to have as much chance for any adverse effect of the additional glass surfaces to show in your photos. You might want to try some night shots with a few bright light sources, as well as some daylight shots with highlights also.

The only filter I ever use is a circular polarizer, and I won't even take outdoor shots on sunny days without one.
