J1 sensor running hot! Noise/ dead pixels(?) through the roof!

Ok, I did it. Although I have been complaining about the specs and because the alternative failed in the pic quality (Panasonic G3), I decided to give the J1 a try.

Apart from a total failure as lifestyle cam (that's how Nikon markets the Nikon 1), but that's a differen rant, I discovered something more seriously.

Here's what I did:

  • charged the battery

  • went through all the menus, adjusted some settings to my needs, such as raw+jpg (took about 5-10 min)

  • played with AF for a few minuntes

  • fired about ten bursts (until buffer was full 15 frames each)

  • in between about 1 min video recording

That means for about 15 min the LCD screen was on most of the time. The backside of the J1 felt really warm. And I was more than shocked when I noticed what happend to the sensor. More dead like pixels than sand on a beach!!!

First crop when the cam was still cool.

Second crop (same area and size) when the cam was hot.

Nikon 1 J1
