Nokia 808 Pureview: Did Fuji Get It Wrong with the X10 and EXR?

Key points:

-considered so far revolutionary technology, with tangible results

-approx. 41 MP, with final output being 5-8MP.

-1 1/2" sensor

-Each photosite uses data from 7 neighboring ones to yield the final output. It appears there may be a 38MP mode as well.

-Low to no noise, incredible resolution, dynamic range, and low light performance are being reported (and seen in samples).

-Zeiss f2.4

-Xenon flash 2x brighter than the one on the N8

-Intelligent, lossless digital zoom, including for video, with the samples already backing up the claim of no quality loss.

Is this what Fuji did wrong? Scaling up and interpolating double the number of MP from a smaller number (ie: x10 is a 6MP camera, in reality), when they should have been scaling down from a larger number?

Oddly, it took a cellphone manufacturer to come up with this revolutionary technology?
