D800 1.2X Crop Mode - As Fast as D700 & Higher Buffer Capacity?

Many have been complaining about the D800's FPS and buffer limit, comparing the 36MP image to the D7000's 12MP image. However, if you consider the crop modes of the D800, this may change your opinion.

If you look at the D800's chart, you see 41.3MB for a full FX and 18.6MB for a 1.5 crop, under 14-bit lossless compressed, and 17 and 29 buffer sizes respectively. Extrapolating the numbers for a 1.2 crop at 25.1MP, you would come up a file size of 28.8MB, with a corresponding buffer capacity of approximately 23 - three better than the D700's limit of 20.

I can't tell if the 5FPS of the D800 in 1.5 crop mode also applies to the 1.2 crop mode. Assuming it did, that would yield the same 5 FPS as the D700, with 15% more buffer capacity and double the file size.

So... does this take the FPS/buffer issue associated with the D800 off the table for some?
Best Regards,
