Re: D300S

D7000 - Currently the best IQ and largest image size available in Nikon's DX line. It's AF speed, frames per second, buffer limit, and solid body are more than adequate for most most uses. Under decent lighting conditions (up to ISO 1000-1200), the IQ of its images rival if not exceed most other Nikon cameras - FX or DX, apart from the D3X and upcoming D800.

If you focus predominantly on sports, photojournalism, or wildlife photography, you may find the D300/s is a better fit. For high ISO needs, you will need to move to a D700 or the recently announced D800.

For all other purposes however, the D7000 can't be beat and provides some of the best bang for the buck available from any camera manufacturer.
