Casual Shooter - Make sense to $ell D700?

If you're a hobbyist -- and can stand to skip a generation of cameras -- does it still make sense to sell the D700, or are you better off keeping it, and waiting for a D900 or selling now and getting a D800 to upgrade later? Ignore need, think purely in terms of dollars (hobby, not business use). Ignore the "stupidity" of the question; its not stupid to hobbyists considering this.

Assume if you sell D700 today, you can get $1900.
Assume you purchased D700 for $2500.
You purchased extras for $500.
D700's extra stuff is worth $200 now.
(Total depreciation: $900).

Cost of D800 would be $3000.
D800 extra stuff will be $600.
(Total additional cost: $1700).

Cost of D900, let's pretend, will be $3400.
Extra D900 stuff will be $700.
Assume D700 will be $800 at this point (8 years old).
Assume D700 extras will be $100 at this point.
(Total additional cost: $3200).

Cost of D900, let's pretend, will be $3400.
Extra D900 stuff will be $700.
Assume D800 will be $1900 at this point (3-4 yrs old).
Assume D800 extras will be $200 at this point.
(Total additional cost: $2000).

Upgrading from D700-D800: $1700
Upgrading from D800-D900: $2000
Upgrading from D700-D800-D900: $3700
Upgrading from D700-D900: $3200

If you keep the D700 (with the intention to upgrade to the D900), rather than upgrading to the D800, are we talking about a savings of approximately $500 over a 4 years period?

Just food for thought -- feel free to inject your own math.
