the NX20 isn't really that delayed
Feb 24, 2012
first, we've only really gotten stuff from rumor sites. and those rumors could be wrong.
and even if those rumors were right and samsung has been pushing back the NX20 release date since fall 2011, they aren't really that behind compared to other companies.
sure, there hasn't been a real successor to the original NX10 for almost a couple years now. but the same can be said for other companies. Panasonic didn't release a real successor to the GF1 until this year with the GX1. the GF2 and GF3 were basically repeat models with slight design variations. Olympus did the same thing with the EP1 and EPL1, with which the EP2/EPL2/EP3/EPL3 are all the same camera with slight design variations (and then the big AF improvement with the third generation, but still the same camera). And even the EPM1 which is basically Olympus's version of the GF3. Not until the new OM this year has Olympus come out with a real successor to any of those cameras.
So sure, there hasn't been a real new model since the original NX10. But other companies did the same thing, the only difference being that Samsung didn't release as many repeat models. In my mind, that's what makes Samsung more of a photographer's company in that way- they're not releasing a bunch of the same model just to make sales or look active- they take their time and (hopefully) release successors that are actually better.
The NX20's sensor is a lot better, one of the best APS-C, the buffer will be good, there's a good EVF and articulated AMOLED screen, and more customization than teh NX10- all very good improvements.
Although....some of the recent rumors are kind of making me doubt this analysis. The NX210 just adds in wi-fi...and unless samsung has bigger plans with that than "upload to facebook" like wireless tethering or wireless output to make a tablet an external monitor or something, the NX210 will basically be a repeat model. And then the NX300 is going to be an NX20 but without an EVF? What? I'd rather see an NX200 design with an articulated screen and better buffer. Although I guess until we see the NX20's design, we can't see how impractical or practical that actually is. hopefully on one of these models they add an accessory port and mic jack input to support that mic they showed off and an EVF (hopefully samsung will release an EVF better than the existing one for the nx100)
