Re: Placed my order for a GX1!

I was very tempted to get the 7-14. It's high on my list of what to buy next. I am definitely going to avoid the PZ lenses! One benefit of lurking in the MFT forum is that I got to learn about the shortcomings of many of the lenses and cameras out there! A 14-60 would be awesome indeed.

My camera is out for delivery today! Just in time for the weekend.

Good Deal. I have the Panasonic GF-1 still and its a nice camera. I was thinking about this as an upgrade, but maybe I'll wait to see the next version or GX-2 since the GF-2, 3 were not the intended next in the series if that makes sense or the best upgrade to the GF-1. The GX-1 seems nice. The 7-14 is a really nice wide and worth it. The power zoom lens is not new technology. Minolta used to have this on the film SLR's and from my experience a PZ was not as fine tuning as the traditional zoom ring. IMO stay far far away from any power zoom lens. The 14-45 is a nice basic lens, but if Panasonic did a 14 mm to 60 mm with the same f-stop I would trade up to make it a 28-120 type lens

I did lots of research, read some reviews, and read the many useful threads (and some not-so-useful ones) in this forum, and decided to go with the Panasonic DMC-GX1 as my first MFT camera.

I sold my Canon G10 on eBay yesterday, my previous (walk around camera). However, when traveling to faraway places, I remember using one of my D-SLRs even if I had the G10 with me. However, the thought of lugging around a 5D with 2 or 3 lenses again while walking around was not as appealing as having a MFT camera with me. I also prefer to leave my money-making equipment at home when I am out and about having fun.

I'm looking forward to this new journey. With my GX1, I got the Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4 and the Panasonic 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6. The kit lens didn't appeal to me, and I wanted a general zoom to start with. Ultimately, I wanted the Olympus, but I didn't want to wait, and I think the GX1 will keep me happy for a long time.
