Canon Rumors CLAIMS this is the final specs.

Canon is asking $1,000 dollars for the improved AF. They must be mad!

funny thing was I was thinking the same thing! Is the improvements that great!! I used to hope for better FPS and AF its like the 7D, but i don't think its really worth it for that cost!!!
These specs do not tell many of us the info we might need to make a decision. I personally don't care about how many focus sensors; the current system works just fine for me. If this camera does not have much better DR, and no pattern noise, I don't care if it sells for even as little as $2000. At $3500 I can't see it at all. Lets wait to see whether this is a warmed over 5Dii, or whether it truly is significantly improved. I am getting ready to be disappointed.

...and they want to eek out a bit more from their Canon division before they close it.

"5D Mark III/X

Below are the specs for the coming 5D replacement, the full name of the camera is currently unknown.

Specs

22mp
61pt AF
100% VF
3.2″ LCD
Dual CF/SD Card Slots
Price: Around $3500 USD
Announcement on February 27 or 28, 2012 (Depending where you are on earth)

So this pretty much confirms what we’ve been saying for a while now."

Ok, so how many people believe this (I do), since it fits the images, but, does anyone else think $3500 is WAY TO MUCH?

I don't think there has been significant advances in sensor technology to justify a $3500 price for these specs. Even if it improves the low light performance of the 5d2 by 1 stop and removes the banding some have complained about, this camera will only appeal to dedicated Canon shooters. I'm not a master of human behavior, but if I was a new prosumer buyer and presented with these specs, I'd by the D800 every time.

I will go with my previous prediction that they will have a a model with specs like this for under $2500. Later they will release a $3000 model with 30+ MP and 5-7fps, and There's just too much space between the 7D and this proposed 5D3 if they intend to sell it for $3500.

Unless of course they keep the 5D2 in production and drop it's price to $2000 . . .

If you like to crop A LOT, you do bad job in correctly framing your pictures :-) The cropping is the obsessive feature it seems. I bet you crop far less, than what "a lot" means :-)

If you are shooting people, mostly brides, you will get someone who wants the pictures cropped A LOT, or they wanted it cropped 25-50% and blown up to a 16x20, etc.. So resolution is important, etc

Time will tell - but if true and Nikon delivers on its promises I find it difficult to imagine that I will be shooting with Canon this summer...

Dark side high lights:
1. D800 far better deal for my use (if its IQ proves to live up to the hype).
2. 500$ to offset the lens change expense.
3. 5Dii used price will remain good (should I be glad or sad about this?).

4. Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR II, 300 f/2.8 VR, 200 f/2.8 VR, 35 f/1.4 all cheaper than Canon L's and I can get Nikon's wide angle zoom (!)

Ouch points:
1. Give up 135L :-(

Neutral
1. No 85L, but I'll happily go with the Sigma in stead

Brand loyalty and waiting for Canon to catch up is for fan-boys. I'm gone with the wind if this is the future.

OK, now for cropping/framing - is there any significant difference into aproach one have to adapt to, when going from APS-C to full frame camera? Or the depth of field, etc.?

I just wonder, to occassional shooting, why not put inbuilt flash on the 5DIII camera? It will not be any larger than 7D, which has an inbuilt flash unit.

For me, I guess it will go like this:

Canon 15 / 2.8 FE --> Sigma 15 / 2.8 FE
Canon 24 / 1.4L --> Nikkor 24 / 1.4
Canon 50 / 1.2L --> Nikkor 50 / 1.4G
Sigma 70 / 2.8 macro --> Sigma 70 / 2.8 macro
Canon 100 / 2 --> Sigma 85 / 1.4
Canon 200 / 2.8L --> Sigma 150 / 2.8 OS macro (or Sigma 180 / 2.8 OS macro)

I think Canon will put a positive spin on the announcement to counter the D800 with something like High ISO to 25K.

I agree with an earlier post that it will be in the ball park of 4.3 fps, a little better than the D800.

But I think the big news will be in the video capability of this new body.

So if it's $3,500 (which I think is too high, especially given that the primary competitor has drawn a line in the sand at $2,9999, what's does the extra $1000 get you?

Guessing here:
Pro AF
Higher ISO effeciency (hopefully 2 usable stops)
Better LCD
Some weatherproofing.

A significant upgrade in the video (remember the 5DII was purchased very heavily by the video community and this is camera that revolutionize DSLR video as a true tool of the trade. Canon will want to keep that legacy alive) IMHO

Keep in mind that the video community is accustomed to spending a GREAT DEAL more for their cameras than the still community. So $3,500 will seem like a bargain to them.

I just dabble in video so I don't know what the true videographer's wish list is for this body but I'm willing to bet they will be elated with the announcement. If you have ever been to the NAB Show in Vegas, it becomes very clear that the 5dII and 7D ARE THE CAMERA of CHOICE! Or at least have been, this April Nikon and Panasonic may put a kink in that dominance.

Personally would love to see a pull-out screen or at least one that swivels. Once you've used one, it's hard to go back to a flat screen camera.

I also think this Forum is going to be on FIRE next week after the announcements. Some will say they're selling everything and going over to Nikon, others will be writing joyfully. It's going to make for some fun reading!!

I sure hope Canon hits a home run with this one. Anticipation....

I think once and all switch to Nikon, at least that's what iam going to do for me photography is hobby and cant afford £500 just to have canon.
Thank you Canon we got good reward for waiting 5D MarkIII

I would be happy with these specs. I am one of those video people who are used to paying up for video cameras. So if Canon can put a clean HDMI feed out of this camera I will buy two and think it is a bargain!

I am not holding my breath on this feature though...

I expect the D800 will be hard to get before the summer of 2012... they can only build 30K a month so they can't keep up with demand. Glad I ordered mine first minute.

I'll hang on to my Canon gear next to it. Can't imagine life without 85L and 135L. But who knows.

There must be something we aren't getting, mustn't there?
What is it that we don't know about that would sell this?
4k video?
10FPS?

But at least we'll know if all the people here who think that low pixel count sells cameras are right...
