I've been amazed to discover what can be achieved with an external flash, especially pointing a wireless unit in different directions.

But the 1100D/T3 does not have wireless flash support, and the Speedlite transmitter ST-E2 that canon sells for this purpose is out of my budget.

So is this technique closed for me with my current camera or are there any workarounds that allow me to point an external flash in different directions?

I don't mind if the flash remains wired to the camera as long as I can remove it from the hotshoe and move it around.

For long distances the some wireless solution is recommended, but the cheap ones do not provide full automatic function.

However, to just hold it in hand next to the camera to turn it in all directions,

one of the extension cables works fine. As mentioned, the Canon cable is very expensive.

I got the Yongnuo cable on ebay for about 10$, and it is very well made. The part that goes onto the hotshoe of the camera has a locking mechanism that is virtually identical to the 430 EX II flash I have.

From pictures, the Yongnuo cable looks VERY similar to the Canon OC-E3. I wonder if it's not the same product.

I have seen complaints for both the Yongnuo and the Canon version of this cable that the flash holder can break apart in the middle when used with a heavy flash like that 530 EX II (presumably when mounted on a flash bracket rather than when held by hand). So, that's one thing one has to be aware of with this cable.

But for the price it looks like a well made cable.
