The file name extension can be changed at anytime in the camera and does not insure it is right!

I just bought a camera that was supposed to have less than 5,000 clicks. Seller thought that the file name extension was the number of clicks. EXIF data shows it had 25,000 clicks!

You need to upload a JPEG or better yet a NEF to MyShutterCount.com. Converting NEF to JPEG in Aperture stripped out the data, so I had to use the original NEF.

You can take a picture of anything, including the inside of your lens cap if you want.

Download and wait.

If using a Mac the Preview application allows you to read the EXIF data from the Tools menu. Just open up your NEF in preview.
