Why isn't the D800 a D700 replacement?

I've see some here and pundits elsewhere say the the D800 isn't the replacement for my D700. It seems to me that it is in that it follows the typical upgrade of more MP, better DR, ergonomic improvements, and a few good hardware changes (dual card slots, 100% viewfinder) and video.

Why isn't the D800 a replacement and, if you think it isn't, what would be?

Thanks,
Mike
