I am about to buy an S2 from Jessops. What is the battery kit and is it worth having? Thanks for your advice

Hi Dave,

Doesn't it specify anything else? Just battery kit? There is no such an accessory from Fuji. It could be from an extra AA pack to an external battery.

Best,

Hi Dave,

The battery kit consists of 8 AA NMiH high capacity batteries and a rapid charger. Sadly nothing for the C123A.

Very handy if you don't have this already, if you do then more NMih can't hurt and an extra charger could be useful.

Enjoy your new S2.

If you already have NiMH AA's then the 'Pro' battery pack is not worth it.

Incidently, when I bought my S2 from Warehouse Express and they sent me 8 Uniross AA's plus a Uniross Fast Charger as the Fuji stuff was out of stock. This is a bonus as the Uniross charged has a 12V cigarette lighter lead so I can recharge in the car.

Dave,

got my s2 ffrom jacobs, it came unfortunately with a battery kit and the 1 gig card, as I could not get a body only, I bought the s2 as kitted.

The battery kit was the uniross with 8 nimh batteries, the charger is a 2 hour job and works well. It also comes with a car plug.

Guess if you want it that bad you will buy it as is. Also worth a note that onthe 7dayshop.com you can get the latest hama 2000 mah batteries and cr123s are a few quid for 6, unlike jessops price of £8 for 2 now that is a ripoff.

The camera is bloody marvelous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards Nick

Check out Dixons too as they do a package of Fuji S2+Nikon 28-100 lens,256 compact flash for about £2008. Also the basic Fuji S2 £1699.

They had some in stock and delivered mine within 2 days (actually Christmas Eve).

Sadly no battery kit as part of a priced kit, but they may do a deal on their own.

Do not expect Dixon's to be as knowledgable about the Fuji S2 as Jessops though

Hi,

Isn't that what the battery kit is normally? That's what I got from Walters in Caerphilly.

Thanks Paul,

I will check this out at my local store as I am also looking for a 28-100 lens.

It must have been great to get your camera on Christmas Eve.

Dave, if you haven't already done so then forget the battery kit if you've already invested in NiMH AA's and charger.

The "battery kit" composition seems to vary wildly depending on dealers (i.e. it's almost like a dealer chosen bundle rather than official Fuji, hence non-Fuji batts and charger). Personally I had poor experience with Uniross so avoid all their packages. The Fuji charger is poor from my experience with a trial unit from them. I looked into "smart" chargers with voltage/charge monitoring functions and about the only respected one I could find was the Ansmann series (try fotosense.co.uk). I've just upgraded from 1800MAh to 2000MAh batts too. you may end up spending a bit more but you should recoup in savings quickly, especially if you get your CR123's off-shore at £1 each rather than get ripped off in the High St.

What lenses are you looking at?

Good luck and enjoy.
