EX1 thoughts

Hi,

After experiencing a few months now with the EX1 (taking 632 photos), my opinion looks like ... :

1) Regarding exposure, one should definitively expose to - 0,3 EV, because there are many advantages (or bracketing on + - 0,3 EV)

• On low light this may help the shutter speed to keep with 1/15, where the IS is probably working, while below the IS won't avoid the motion blur.

• On high lights this will add some sharpness, which else is lost beyond recovery.

2) Regarding perspective tools,

• Why pay attention to perspectives ?

• Because only then it looks professional.

• How being able to restore perspective ?

• Imho, avoiding the short end of the zoom, equiv 24 mm because the optical distortions can never be recovered with any tool, even with lens correction profile. This is asking too much to the software, foremost one loose a lot of framing in the corners. The lens correction cannot apply correctly if the subject is out of a perpendicular plan in front of the camera, because the near side of the object is scaled up, so the correction should be proportional to this distortion. And it isn't, it is applied all over the picture. This is less the case with the Tele.

• Start correcting the horizontal perspective, and the rotation, because this helps then to correctly set the vertical correction, and not the reverse.

Finally, Xnview allow to create contact sheets very easily.
