366MP fullframe

Canon SX40 puts 12,1MP on a tiny sensor (6.2x4.6mm), equals 0,42MP per square mm

Nikon D800 puts 36,3MP on a fullframe sensor (36x24mm), equals 0,04MP per square mm

Canon SX40 density on Nikon fullframe equals 366MP

Canon SX40 image quality is quit decent in bright daylight

So the rat(MP)race isn't over yet?
(as long as memorycards, batteries, harddrives, processors etc evolve as well)

when will laws of physics end? (diffractions, chromatic abberations, VR complexity)

Or is it impossible to interpolate the SX40 lens. The lens is a 4,3 - 150,5 mm (35mm-equivalent: 24 - 840 mm). Cant imagine that this lens is any better than a Nikkor 24-120mm (SX40 equivalent 134-672mm) or a Nikkor 28-300 (SX40 equivalent 157-1680mm.)

ofcourse I am just loosing sanity and I am not even a fan of digital zooming

Nikon D800
