A square pattern sounds hard. I think a circular one does just as well and only involves driving the actuators with sine waves in quadrature, which need much less acceleration. Up to 1/8000 second might need 16000 Hz and a motion of a few microns peak to peak - doesn't sound undoable. You'd probably attract a lot of dogs each time you took a photo, though.
