D3100: 11AF points vs Single Centre Point Focus

My question is very basic regarding focus points and sharpness.

Assume Matrix Metering which I use most

Case 1) I choose my AF settings that all 11 points are active in my frame. In a particular scene say atleast 4 or 5 people are standing and 6 or 7 of the AF points are lighting up as red indicating focus, will my entire image be sharp? Will all the 4 or 5 people in the shot appear as sharp?

Case 2) I choose single centre AF point only. 4 or 5 people are standing and I aim the Center point AF to the person in the middle of the scene. Will all 4 or 5 in the shot appear sharp or only the person in the center of the frame appear sharp and remaining of them blurr?

Question is related to:
When should I need 11 AF points active in my frame? What do I gain from that?
When should I need only Single point AF in my frame? What are its benefits?

Do the focus points play any role in what will appear sharp and what will not appear sharp?
