I gathered from reading the manual that multi-pattern is meant more for face detection than landscapes.

Since switching to average I don't see any issues.

I especially don't see blown highlights in RAW because I use DR400, as is intended for all images with high contrast. I leave my EV comp wheel at 0, except on dull days when i lift it by up to 1EV.
