I have to say that I agree with every one of your points. The SX40 definately does good if you remenber the narrow bracket of conditions that it excels at. I only disagree with one of your points. It doesn't do well in bright light. The CA is one of my big issues with it, along with the auto focus in low light. I missed many good shots today because the camera simply refused to focus on the birds I was trying to shoot. It was very cloudy and raining.

I keep it in the bag when the conditions are really cloudy and if it is too bright. Other times it is great. I'd rather shoot with my 7D and only get 200mm shots than try with the SX40 and miss a shot.
