1. What do we know about total volume?

The total worldwide volume of interchangeable-lens cameras (ILCs), both mirrored DSLRs/SLTs and mirrorless CSCs, shipped by Japanese manufacturers was 15.7 million units in 2011. This figure does not include Samsung, so it is not quite the entire worldwide market, but it's pretty close.

I found the Samsung figure for interchangeable-lens camera unit sales for 2011: it's 120,000 (modestly less than I would have guessed).

So the total worldwide shipments of interchangeable-lens cameras for 2011 was just a little over 15.82 million units. If we allow 30,000 units for Leica we can call it 15.85 million. (This leaves out medium format cameras made outside of Japan, but I'd bet their total unit volume is barely over 1,000.)
