In Sony DSLR & SLT cameras, does not say in Mirror-less cameras.I like how he makes note of the panorama issue, but also how it is a near identical performer to the Sony version, but that the VC works better than SSS. Hmmm...
6 year (Tammy) vs 1 year (Sony) warranty...In Sony DSLR & SLT cameras, does not say in Mirror-less cameras.I like how he makes note of the panorama issue, but also how it is a near identical performer to the Sony version, but that the VC works better than SSS. Hmmm...
I have read here, reports that the Sony 18-200mm stabilizes better in video because of the larger glass provides more movement.
For me it is no contest, unless you are really short of cash, even then save up for an extra couple of months. Get the one developed by the camera maker.
An old saying that comes to mind....."Quality remains long after price is forgotten."![]()

Good point but in reality how many people have problems with their lens, other than not sharp enough, soft corners etc from day one, you then take it back straight away.6 year (Tammy) vs 1 year (Sony) warranty...

True true, but you never know when a motor will go out, or an internal component may loosen/break/etc. In actuality, a longer warranty isn't truly necessary, but for peace of mind, a longer one is great to have.Good point but in reality how many people have problems with their lens, other than not sharp enough, soft corners etc from day one, you then take it back straight away.6 year (Tammy) vs 1 year (Sony) warranty...

EXACTLY! People sort of forget just how much smaller the Tamron really is in comparison. Spec-wise, little difference, but a couple millimeters in the hand can make a huge difference in the ergonomics of any device.it's not just about price. in practice the Tamron is the better fit for the "compactness" of NEX system.
If you take a look at his SEL18200 review he says a similar thing "Bokeh is somewhat harsh at both ends with a wide open aperture, producing a noticeable ring and point in highlights, that's typical for less expensive zooms.""Bokeh. Mostly harsh at all focal lengths. Look below for sample crops."
Hmm.

Many years ago I had a Tamron zoom develop a mechanical problem after three years of use, it was great to have it fixed free of charge. And I'm now wishing my Canon 24-105mm L lens had a six year warranty!Good point but in reality how many people have problems with their lens, other than not sharp enough, soft corners etc from day one, you then take it back straight away.6 year (Tammy) vs 1 year (Sony) warranty...

an important factor judging by so many responses that mention this!!it's not just about price. in practice the Tamron is the better fit for the "compactness" of NEX system. I'm sure the Sony lens is great but unless you prioritize video or worry a whole lot about resale value, I would recommend the tamron
I saw this guy's review of the SEL 18200. Except for flare and ghosting, it was only tested at 18mm and 200mm. Yes, only the two most extreme focal lengths. It's like it was the first zoom he'd ever tested. Likewise, he reached a completely different conclusion (some would say misguided, given how he collected his data) about the lens than other, more thorough, reviewers. What a joke.Hello again, and here it is: http://kurtmunger.com/tamron_nex_18_200mm_f_3_5_6_3id317.html
