No D700 Replacement...

It seems to me that the D800 is an updated version of the D3X, albeit in smaller physical size mode - just as the D700 was to the D3. So where is the the real D700 replacement?

By that I mean a scaled down version of the D4.

12mp is good enough for me and I guess many more people, 16mp is even better -in addition to all the resolution I need and brilliant noise performance doesn't need more PC processing power. Would Nikon introduce a camera (in no less than 2 versions...!) for a minority market need? Okay, maybe there are lower resolution options but surely one is paying for that capability, and why would one buy a 36mp camera to use it at half resolution?

Make no mistake, the D800 sounds like a great camera and I suspect a viable replacement for the huge D3X, but, where is my new version of the D700?
