Re: Canon t1i troubleshooting: dark line on image

To me it looks like the mirror or shutter is failing. I've had that problem on two 40Ds. If there's nothing physically blocking the light in front of the lens then it must be the shutter or mirror that's lagging behind and isn't out of the way in time and that most likely points at a mechanical problem. I'm afraid you'll need to send it in. Repair costs ranged between 150-160 euro. Fortunately both were covered by extended warranty.

Hello, first post and a question

I have a t1i, and on my last outing, I noticed a dark line across the top of my images.

It looks something like this

Portrait:

Landscape :

Since it is linear, I'm positive it has to be something in the body and not the lens -- a setting or physical problem. Is it a shadow/the mirror itself?

If i use live view, I don't see the line on the LCD, so I know it is not something with the sensor -- though it still appears if i take an image with live view.

I've not seen this before, and wondered if you have/know a solution.

As a college student, the idea of having to get repair work done is not my favorite.
