Thanks again for everyone's replies. I decided to go with the J1 and ordered it from B&H today. In the end, I decided to keep it as simple as possible considering that I have my D700 and wasn't looking to totally replace that system. Small and convenient trumped the EVF and some of the other features of the V1 for me in the end.

Hi, similar experience here. I have been trying to decide on the V1 vs. J1, and in the end I bought the J1. I wanted my "take always with me" camera to be small, simple, no fuss. Maybe I will miss the EVF, but the upside is that the J1 is small (it still fits my Lowepro 60AW bag with the 10-30 lens), and it does have a built in flash. And even though its a lot cheaper than the V1, it still feels very well built.

Looking forward to use it, battery is charging...
