Re: Micro 4/3 for beginner...

Interesting question.. I had an lx5 before moving to m43 and if you are asking if the image quality is better, then the answer is yes (larger sensor).

But.. if you are begining to explore photography m43 is likely to cost you a small fortune, even if you wanted to replicate the same images that your lx3 could capture you are looking at spending a lLOT of money!

Sure there are some great lenses for m43 that would get you exceptional images but each lens is likely to cost you more than your old lx3 or the newer lx5!

I obviously don't know how much money you are looking to spend on your photography, but considering you had an lx3 for sometime and never used manual mode, getting a brand new just released GX1 and a bunch of lenses is looking from here to be potentially a huge waste of money! The difference in quality between the lx line and m43 is significant only if you are looking to print large format images, if you are looking to produce great images and even print upto 11x18" then the lx line is a great camera (lx6 is on the way soon too!)

Sorry if this is not what you want to hear.. everyone else seems to think buying into m43 is a good idea!

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket go for it and good luck! If you have not, consider m43 very carefully!

What ever you decide have fun!
