Re: Inconsistent terminology in Canon Manuals

I am more familiar with dSLR manuals than the G and S series manuals. But I do own the G12 and SX40 cameras , and have downloaded those manuals as well as the manual for the G1X. The inconsistencies in some terminology for the same functions in the dSLR and G and S series manuals is very frustrating.

For example... when using Program mode, "Program Shift" is listed under that term in the index in the xxD and 7D manuals, but it is hidden in a footnote under "AE Lock" in the manuals for the G12 (p.101), SX40 (p 96), and G1X (p. 97 - "auto exposure" footnote) "Program Shift" is not listed at all in the index in these manuals.

A poor newbie who knew nothing about this very convenient method of changing shutter speed (camera adjusts aperture accordingly) when in "P" mode, would be missing a very useful tool. As we all know, the camera has no clue whether we are shooting a running child or a pot of flowers.

REALLY.... you'd think that Canon would keep terminology and index listings consistent for all its cameras using a similar function.

That's my "Manual Rant" for the day, folks ! Thanks for listening !

Cheers - carolyn
