As someonw who bought an Alpha 100 when they first came out, first of all let me say congratulations. Now, for some old user advice:

1- Be careful when inserting the compact flash card. I did so once in a hurry and bent a pin in the camera. Costs more to fix than the cmaera is now worth.

2 - Stick to ISO 400 or lower. ISO 800 is okay for emergencies and ISO 1600 is not really useful at all.

3- Experiment with the flash. It seems some users had very good luck with their flash exposure. Mine habitually under-exposed and I normally would have to dial up the flash exposure compensation to get a decent flash photo. Try it out first before any important photos to see what works best for you.

I find the flash works much better on the "auto" setting.
