DPreview should commend the manufacturers for making optical healthy lenses not needing excessive distortion correction. What do DPreview do instead? They tells Nikon that they should do in-camera software distortion correction of their lenses by setting "No in-camera correction of distortion in JPEG files" as a CON.

Here is a list of some M4/3 lenses distortion performance from photozone's tests

  • Panasonic Lumix G 14mm f/2.5 barrel 5% (0.85)

  • Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 barrel 3.3% (0.14)

  • Panasonic Lumix G 7-14mm f/4 barrel 7mm 5.2% (1.1)

  • Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-42 mm f/3,5-5,6 barrel 5.0% (0.7)

  • Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 barrel 14/18/25mm 5.5/4.1/2.2% (1.3/?)

  • Panasonic Lumix G Vario HD 14-140mm f/4-5.8 ASPH barrel 14mm 6.2% (1.8)

  • Olympus M.Zuiko 12mm f/2 ED barrel 5.4% (0.7)

  • Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f/2.8 barrel 4.5% (0.8)

  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 9-18mm f/4-5.6 ED barrel 9mm 4.8% (1.8)

  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 ED barrel 14mm 4.6% (1.7)

  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 14-150mm f/4-5.6 ED barrel 14mm 5.7% (1.3)

As a comparison Nikon 1 lenses is tested without correction

  • Nikkor 10mm f/2.8 barrel 1,8%

  • Nikkor VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 barrel 10/14/18/24/30 2.5/1.2/0.4/0.05/0.03%

  • Nikkor VR 30-110mm f3.8-5.6 barrel 30/40 1.9/0.04% pincushion 60/80/110 0.9/0.9/0.8%

DPreview should give all M4/3 cameras a CON with "requires in-camera distortion correction of lenses for not looking half-way as fisheye lenses".

You're going downhill with your reviews, DPreview!

We don't consider in-camera correction, in itself, to be as much of an issue as you evidently do. We care more about the end result.

That's because you don't use any M4/3 lenses for your studio scene comparisons and resolution tests for M4/3 camera reviews and which are used when comparing to other camera reviews, but only use the excellent 4/3 Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 50mm f2.0 Macro lens, which doesn't require any correction.
