Snow: Did I do it right?

I wanted to picture the white snow as white. Previously my snow pictures used to look grey. Hence, I over exposed this time +1. Why does the image still show me 0EV? When I focussed it did show me +1 on the bottom right corner.

Canon S95 used in M mode to picture the snow on the patio railing around noon today.

Did I do well? Where can I improve?
I wanted slight sharpness. I see a little purple fringe on the edges?
Is that common?

Thanks for looking.
