What lens and how near

On a mountain walk i just used my 10-22.... with a wide angle lens and with f8 practically everything is in focus...

Usually i see a landscape - as a landscape - and most of the things are further away. If the closest rock or tree is 10m away and the furthest 10km there is no need to think about this focusing thing . Unless you are using a tele lens like 300mm!

Only when you want to have something in the foreground - very close to the camera, like 40cm to be sharp and you want also a sharp horizon... it can be problematic. Then you must have a 15mm focal length + f 16 = deep DOF

But just a "normal" landscape is easy. Use a f value that gives sharpest results and just use autofocus (usually f 5,6-8)
