I think it is just in my nature to a be a pixel peeper

I figure that the better it looks close up, the better the overall shot will be - although I recognize for a 4 x 6 print that there might not be any difference.

My goal is just to take the best shots I can under the circumstances. I will be a bit miffed if my $200 point and shoot will outperform my $250 lens + $700 camera - regardless of the conditions - which is why I am a bit concerned about the lack of ability to get clean shots at the slower shutter speeds without a tripod when I can do so with the point and shoot - I am afraid I will get stuck in a low light situation where I am wishing for the p&s

But again I want to make sure that I don't have a bad lens.
