OK, here ya go. It was 8 degrees F outside when I took these pics!

I'll try to post these VR first not VR second. 1/60th shutter, 25 feet away, at 200mm on my D5100, cropped as you see. The clearer one is the VR and all three test shots looked like this. The non-VR one is slightly blurry and all three shots looked about like this, some blurrier, some less blurry which I attribute to my handheld technique.

I do't know your holding technique and other variables but with 55-200 mm VR the 90% keeper rate is obtained at at least 1/50 s (which is more than 2 stops below normal). You may have a defective lens. Maybe the focus was not OK.

Hi baloo,

Short of me buying another lens, I think the only real way to settle this is to have someone take shots under similar circumstances & see what they get without any post processing.

Can you take a picture of a ball with "made in" words printed on it (about size 10-12 font) at 20-25 feet at 200mm and clearly read the print at 1/60 shutter speed with VR on?
I certainly cannot achieve this on my D5100.

On my compact superzoom I am getting nearly 100% keepers (actually with 1/40 shutter speed) - haven't gotten a bad shot yet.

Is it possible for you to do this?

I appreciate your help.
Thanks!
