I'm pretty sure it's a compromise between the camera/sensor size and the battery life. All I'm saying is that it's not really that bad and not a deal breaker if you like everything else about the camera. But I agree, it's a bit disappointing.

I hate having to charge the battery every day or so. And sometimes, there's no way to do it : wrong adapter, no current, no time.

I'm used to the excellent battery life of the G11 and the D90. No need for a spare battery. And less than 250 shots seems very short for me. But to each his own...

250 shots is almost 7 rolls of 36 shot film. Ask anybody who shot film for years if they ever shot that many in a single day. Of course not, it's ridiculous! Professionals may shoot more, but this is not a pro camera. Stop shooting everything you have in your sights and the battery life will never be an issue
