Because the 300D requires the setting of ISO manually, it is a great camera to learn on. It makes you really learn how to expose.

I would add the undutchables firmware for it. The modified firmware enables flash exposure compensation - which is a big help.

I shoot RAW exclusively on our 300D, despite how slow the file writes are. The reason is that JPEG processing has come further than sensor technology since 2003. The undutchables firmware also allows you to minimize the size of the preview JPEG stored in the RAW file, which helps write times and CF card capacity significantly.
