I see a lot of wailing about a new $6000 body.

Keep the body for the product cycle (4 years). Sell it and get a D5 then. Assuming you kept it in good shape you will probably get at least half what you paid for it. If you burned out the shutter, get a new one. Shutter replacement is only a few hundred bucks. Normal maintenance. Like changing the brake pads on your car.

So the D4 will cost you $3K for 4 years. $750/year.

You guys who drink Starbucks. How much do you spend on coffee in a year?

Another thought (from another forum). When you get your D5, the D4 becomes your backup for the next 4 years. At that point you convert it to IR to replace the D3/D3S you converted to IR when you got your D5. That gives you 12 years use out of the camera. $500/year.
