S100 and other P&S: Movie file size very large ?
Jan 8, 2012
Since I had the G9 and now again with the S100, I notice that the file size of the movies is very large.
Even at 640x480 it is at least 60MB per minute and at 1280x720 200MB / minute.
That is the reason I never shoot HD as the file size is really HUGE.
When I convert them to H.264 with ffmpeg, 200 kb/sec, same framerate, same resolution and quality looks the same, I see a considerable shrink in file size, it is only about 30% of its original size ?
Why are the cameras taking so much space ?
For stills there is a 'normal' and 'fine' mode (I never saw the difference, only the file size is half as large) why no such thing for videos ?
