P7100 - Low light, long exposure, technique discovery

Tonight, I took my new P7100 to a trendy local restaurant. I just took it as a walkalong but, the dramatic lighting made me decide to see what I could do with it.

I set the P7100 to aperture priority and let it pick the shutter speed. The first two images were taken at 5 seconds. I just set the camera on the table aimed it and pushed the button. Obviously, from the first, that didn't work with any subject motion.

If you look at the right side of the second image, the pyramidal chandelier caught my eye and I decided to take a shot of it. At f2.8, this showed up at 8 seconds. Hmmmmm, I needed to zoom a little to fill the frame and, I also needed to tilt the camera upward. Normally, you could put a coin or key under the camera but, 8 seconds was a while and it wouldn't hold the camera stable for that long. I suddenly realized that the articulated screen could be pulled out and tilted and would hold the camera very stable. The result was

Nothing fantastic but, I did manage to capture the atmosphere and learned a new technique for a new camera.

PS, the salmon was delicious.
