Artificial choice.

They are hypothetical specifications. There is no reason for them to be any of those particular mixes, and many people will choose on factors other than those you ahve put. Also, the features you have put as mutually exclusive are not necessarily so.

This forum is ample evidence that varied requirements and desires exist for low res, high res, video and non-video solutions. We are all different. People bought lots of D700s (even after video became common) and people bought lots of 5Dmk2s even though the AF was, er, pants).

However, if Nikon could hypothetically make four 800 mark cameras for the same price of say $3500 by mixing and matching parts already developed, which would you choose....?

D800xv: 36MP, 5fps, HD video, D3s metering and AF

I want 24 or more MP, so this suits. HD video I need sometimes, good. Not too fussed about frame rate, so 5FPS is fine. Yes to good AF. Sophisticated metering is a waste of time, digital isn't film and you don't need to (and shouldn't try to) 'nail' exposure, not that these fancy meter ever really helped anyway.

D800sv : 16MP, 8fps, HD video, D3s metering and AF

No dice. 16MP is not enough.

D800x : 36MP, no video, D3s metering and AF, built in GPS, high speed tethering

I'm kind of thinking that the built in web interface in the D4 is something coming with the D800. The Gen 7 Milbeaut processor that is the 'EXPEED 3' has Ethernet support built in in any case, so it's not as though it will cost anything. If so, that just does fine for the 'high speed tethering' from my phone. By and large I know where I am when I take a photo, so I'm not fussed about the GPS. No video is maybe a deal breaker. It depends if I have another camera that covers my video needs. I can't see the advantage of 'no video'. It's not a feature, it is the lack of a feature. It's not going to happen in any case.

D800s : 16MP, no video, full D4 metering and AF

Fails on every front apart from the AF. Might as well buy a used D3s.

Assume build quality similar to D700 and 2 card slots and slower burst rate for x vs. s models because of file size.

Please reply using one of the above model numbers as the subject title. Some of you may want something different but humour me - just list what would be closest to the one you want, and qualify your response in the text.

What conclusion are you trying to come to? The answers to a set of phony alternatives yields no useful information.
