Lifetime of shutters is usually expressed in actuations, not years. The number Canon and Nikon say the shutter in their high end cam's should work has been increasing over the years, from IIRC 50000 in an early 1D [which may be close to what analogue cameras were rated for] to 400000 for today's D4. But it still adds cost to the making of the camera.

If built well mechanical shutters can last a long time - the one on my (1973) Nikon F2 still works fine and over the years it has taken an awful lot of photos in very bad conditions.
